Gehlot and Jully urge State govt to implement gig workers act
Jaipur, May 30 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully on Thursday called on the state government to implement the Rajasthan Platform Based Gig Workers (Registration and Welfare) Act, enacted by the previous Congress-led administration in July 2023.
Highlighting it as a pioneering step inspired by Rahul Gandhi's vision, Gehlot said the law was the first of its kind in the country and includes provisions for a welfare fund, insurance, and regulated working hours for gig workers.
He along with Jully emphasised the need for immediate enforcement to ensure social security and dignity for thousands of youth employed by digital platforms like Ola, Uber, Swiggy, and Zomato.
Gehlot in a post on X said: "This law has provisions for welfare fund, insurance, working hours etc. for gig workers.
In response to the remarks, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said: "The Centre and the Rajasthan government has made provisions in budget. The state government is working for the welfare of gig workers."...
