Gehlot, LoP hail Cong win; say it reflects people's will
Jaipur, Nov. 15 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday hailed the Congress victory in the Anta assembly bypoll, congratulating candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya and attacking the BJP state government, claiming that it failed to achieve anything concrete for the state in the entire course of its two-year-tenure.
In a post thanking voters for the Congress win and congratulating Bhaya, Gehlot said the result reflected people's growing dissatisfaction with the state government.
He argued that the BJP's weakening of earlier public welfare schemes has caused widespread distress, and the Anta outcome is a clear endorsement of the welfare initiatives implemented under the previous Congress administration.
Gehlot added that the bypoll result suggests the government is already facing strong anti-incumbency, calling the contest a "litmus test" that the ruling party has failed. He also acknowledged the efforts of Congress leaders and workers who contributed to the campaign.
"I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the voters for ensuring the Congress' victory in the Anta bypoll and hearty congratulations to the newly-elected MLA Pramod Jain Bhaya," Gehlot said.
"The common man is deeply distressed due to the weakening of our popular public welfare schemes, and this result is people's stamp of approval on the schemes run by the previous Congress government," he said.
"This outcome suggests that anti-incumbency has already taken hold against the government in just two years, and the government has proven to be a failure in its litmus test," added the former chief minister.
Other senior Congress leaders also hailed the victory.
According to Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, the people of Anta delivered a clear mandate. He remarked that when the chief minister visited the constituency, it became evident that almost no work had been done there in the past two years. "The CM kept writing parchi (slips), but nothing changed on the ground," Jully said, adding that many public welfare schemes initiated during the previous Congress government were halted in the area.
Jully also claimed that he has heard the government may soon seek the resignation of all ministers, suggesting that "anything can happen" in the current political scenario.
Taking to X, Jully also took an opportunity to extend his praise for the winning candidate.
"This victory is of the unwavering trust of the people in the Congress party's policies and principles, Bhaiya Ji's simple nature, his spirit of service and resolve of dedication, the tireless hard work of Congress leaders and workers, and the politically conscious people of Anta-Mangrol," wrote the senior Congress leader....
