India, Oct. 16 -- Former MTV India VJs Malaika Arora, Nikhil Chinapa and Sophie Choudry took to social media to react to the recent announcement of several MTV channels closing down in Europe. "One can't deny MTV's impact over the decades," Malaika wrote in an Insta story, later reposted by Sophie. Meanwhile, Nikhil offered a pragmatic take, noting that MTV's music programming had largely faded in recent years: "It's sad in a nostalgic way but with the adventure of streaming, on-demand tech etc, it was kind of inevitable (sic)." The shutdown, however, will not affect India, where MTV is licensed by JioStar. A representative told The Quint, "The news is not true for India." Paramount Global's announcement this week sparked a social media frenzy, with many reminiscing about afternoons spent watching MTV's pop hits and music videos. Channels like MTV 80s, MTV Music, Club MTV, MTV 90s, and MTV Live will stop broadcasting in the UK by December 31. The company is also planning to discontinue the network's music channels in Poland, Austria, France and Brazil. htc...
