Jaipur, Nov. 11 -- Former Jaipur Greater Municipal Corporation mayor Soumya Gurjar on Monday said that despite limited resources, the corporation had carried out major works in city development, sanitation, environmental protection, and public welfare. A day after her tenure ended, Gurjar said that when the corporation was formed in 2020, it inherited liabilities worth Rs.300 crore. "Even in difficult financial conditions, the corporation maintained fiscal discipline and successfully repaid its loans," she said. The corporation's annual budget has now increased to Rs.1,383.85 crore. According to Gurjar, development works worth around Rs.1,500 crore were completed during her tenure. A total of 602.49 kilometres of new roads were constructed, along with 12 new toilets, 10 mini toilets, 52 urinals, and four toilet complexes. Several community centres and cremation grounds were also modernised. Gurjar added that 942 parks were rejuvenated and nearly 20 lakh trees planted, including 2.8 lakh large trees and 11 lakh saplings. The "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign encouraged citizens to take part in the plantation drive, she said, adding that the RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Park developed in Mansarovar was also a success. For women and child safety, self-defence camps were organised in schools and colleges, and creche centres were opened for working women and their children, she said, adding that the corporation also conducted training programmes and exhibitions to support women's self-employment. She said the "Aapke Dwar Sunwai Yojana" received good public response, with dedicated teams addressing issues related to cleanliness and street lighting. Loans were approved for 5,000 street vendors to promote self-reliance, said the former mayor. She said the corporation's focus had been on making Jaipur clean, green, and inclusive, and expressed hope that the next board would continue these initiatives....
