BARMER, June 8 -- In a special tribute to the heroes of Operation Sindoor, the forest department in Jaisalmer has named four Great Indian Bustard (GIB) chicks after officials and officers who played key roles in the operation. These include foreign secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sophia Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh and the fourth was named was after the recent operation "Sindoor", people aware of matter said on Saturday. The purpose behind the initiative is to honour the bravery of Indian soldiers and raise awareness about the urgent need to protect this rare bird. Operation Sindoor was India's strikes on terror and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. Four GIB chicks were recently born at the Sudasari and Ramdevra breeding and conservation centres in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district. BM Gupta, deputy conservator of forests at Desert National Park in Jaisalmer, said, "The effort not only honours the bravery of Indian defence forces but also highlights the urgent need to save the critically endangered bird. To celebrate both the success of the operation and the birth of these rare chicks, the forest department has named them as Sindoor, Mishri, Vyom, and Sophia." Gupta said, "We feel a deep sense of pride raising these chicks. Their names give them an identity linked to something larger than all of us - the nation." He added, "By linking the chicks' names to a proud moment, we want to inspire more people to care about conservation."...
