Jaipur, Feb. 9 -- Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot has criticised Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman's parliamentary remarks on the 2022 Udaipur Kanhaiya Lal murder case, labelling them "factually incorrect and misleading." In a post on X, Gehlot said, "The country's Finance Minister, Mrs.@nsitharaman, stated in Parliament while referring to the murder of Shri Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur that no action was taken. This is factually completely wrong and misleading." He asserted that Rajasthan Police acted swiftly, "arresting the accused within hours of the incident." The investigation was later handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), by the central government-yet the victim's family has waited for justice from 2022 to 2026, Gehlot added. He also targeted Union home minister Amit Shah, stating he has repeatedly sought answers on when the accused would be punished but received no response. "The accused (in the case) were BJP workers and the delay in justice fuelled public suspicions in an open-and-shut case," said Gehlot. On compensation claims aired during elections, the former CM accused the BJP of politicising the issue through "misleading narratives" on financial aid. He clarified that Kanhaiya Lal's family received Rs.50 lakh and that both sons secured government jobs. Gehlot accused the home minister of staying silent on the matter during post-election Rajasthan visits, alleging deliberate avoidance. BJP spokesperson Ram Lal Sharma responded: "It is a judicial process where the court makes a decision after examining all the evidence. Even in former PM Indira Gandhi's murder case, it took 17 years for a final decision. Gehlot is trying to mislead the people and politicise the issue."...
