Barmer/Jaisalmer, Oct. 15 -- A private AC sleeper bus travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur on Tuesday suddenly caught fire, forcing passengers to jump from the moving vehicle to save their lives, police said. The incident occurred around 3.30pm near Thaiyat village on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur Highway. According to Jaisalmer municipal council's assistant fire officer, Krishanpal Singh Rathore, it is feared that 10 to 12 people may have died due to severe burns. So far, 15 passengers, including three children and four women, have been reported seriously injured. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in the bus's electrical system. Officials suspect that a short circuit in the AC unit triggered the fire, which spread rapidly throughout the bus. According to officials, the private bus was carrying 57 passengers. The bus had departed from Jaisalmer around 3 PM and had covered about 20 kilometers when smoke began to rise from the rear portion of the vehicle. Within minutes, the entire bus was caught in flames. Upon receiving information, local villagers and passersby rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. They alerted the fire department and police.
