Jaipur, Sept. 18 -- The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Rajasthan government to fill up all the vacant posts in the Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) within three months to ensure the proper function of the agency to combat the rising pollution across the NCR region, people aware of the details said. Additional advocate general, Shiv Mangal Sharma, said, "The court has asked to fill all the vacancies that are waiting for direct recruitment. The Court, however, exempted the State from filling up promotional posts within the same period, after considering the affidavit submitted by the chief secretary Sudhans Pant on behalf of Rajasthan." In the affidavit, the chief secretary apprised the Court that out of 808 sanctioned posts in the RSPCB, nearly 70% have already been filled, leaving only 250 vacancies, of which 175 are to be filled by promotion. Sharma said, "In the NCR region, Rajasthan covers only five districts, and in all these districts the Pollution Control Board is functioning with four Regional Officers working at full strength." "By its 8 May 2025 order, the Supreme Court had issued contempt notices to the chief secretaries of all States including Rajasthan for failing to meet its earlier deadline of April 30 2025 to fill vacancies in Pollution Control Boards." Supreme Court further directed the States of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh to file affidavits outlining measures they intend to take to control the spike in pollution during Diwali....
