Jaipur, Dec. 2 -- Police have initiated a probe after several government officials in multiple districts received suspicious messages from WhatsApp profiles posing as district collectors, police said on Monday. According to the officials, the incident took place at 5:23 am on Monday morning when several BLOs and SDMs across Chittorgarh, Jhalawar, Dungarpur, and Pratapgarh received a message from an unknown WhatsApp profile pretending to be their respective collectors- Alok Ranjan, Ajay Singh Rathore, Ankit Singh, and Anjali Rajoriya. Speaking to the media, Alok Ranjan said, "I received a screenshot from a few of my subordinates in the morning. The message read- "Hello, how are you? Where are you at the moment?" I immediately reported the matter to the police" An official from the cyber crime unit in Police headquarters said, "The profiles added the photo of their respective collectors and also wrote 'District Collector' in their bios. We are trying to trace the numbers. Prima facie, some fraudsters based in Vietnam are probably involved in the case. Further probe is underway. An FIR will be lodged after a primary investigation." Meanwhile, the collectors have also issued a statement from their social media accounts alerting the people about the fraudulent WhatsApp profiles and advising them to take proper precautions....
