Expelled leader Amin Khan reinstated in Cong
Barmer, Aug. 13 -- Former Rajasthan minister and senior Congress leader Amin Khan has been reinstated in the party nearly 16 months after his expulsion. The order, issued on Tuesday by Rajasthan Congress in-charge Sukhvinder Singh Randhawa, formally ends Khan's suspension.
According to the party's statement, Khan was expelled following a complaint by Barmer-Jaisalmer MP Ummedaram Beniwal, who accused him of indulging in anti-party activities during the Lok Sabha elections. Upon his reinstatement, Khan posted "Satyamev Jayate" on social media platform X.
Khan was expelled on April 26, 2024, after being accused of siding with independent candidate Ravindra Singh Bhati instead of the Congress nominee, MP Ummedaram Beniwal, in the parliamentary polls. He faced charges of indiscipline and engaging in anti-party conduct. Earlier, in 2011, Khan was forced to resign as a minister after making controversial remarks about then President Pratibha Patil.
Since his suspension, Khan had been lobbying for his return, even reaching out to senior leaders in Delhi. In recent months, his supporters staged protests during the visits of the Rajasthan Congress in-charge, the state party president, and former chief ministers to Barmer, demanding his reinstatement.
A five-time MLA from the Sheo assembly constituency in Barmer district, Khan has contested the seat 10 times on a Congress ticket. In the 2023 assembly elections, he lost to independent candidate Ravindra Singh Bhati.
Following the defeat, Khan distanced himself from active politics, skipped campaign duties assigned by the party, and went on the Haj pilgrimage during the election period. He also accused the Congress of neglecting the Muslim community and publicly hinted at supporting Bhati - remarks that eventually led to the disciplinary action.
Khan's return comes shortly after the Congress revoked the expulsion of former Barmer district party president Fateh Khan, who had contested the 2023 assembly elections as an independent against the party's official nominee....
