Jaipur, May 3 -- Former minister Mahesh Joshi was granted interim bail for three days on Friday. The order was issued by Special Judge Khagendra Kumar Sharma, allowing Joshi temporary relief from May 8 to May 10 so that he can participate in the post-funeral rituals of his late wife. Advocate Deepak Chauhan, appearing on Joshi's behalf, had requested nine days of interim bail. However, the court approved only a three-day period. Joshi was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on April 24 following a seven-hour-long interrogation in connection with an alleged money laundering case related to the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Rajasthan. The arrest was made under Section 19 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), based on an FIR lodged by the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on August 8, 2023. The FIR also named 22 other individuals, including the former Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the PHED department, and a private individual, Sanjay Badhaya, an alleged close aide of Joshi who was also arrested by the ED on July 16 last year. The case first came to light on August 6, 2023, when the ACB arrested at least five people, including PHED engineers, for accepting a bribe of Rs.2,00,000 from contractor Padam Chand Jain.
