Jaipur, Feb. 5 -- Four employees including a former branch manager of Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Jhunjhunu were booked for allegedly replacing gold jewellery worth Rs.6.5 crore from the vault with fake ones, police said on Wednesday. Assistant police superintendent (ASP) of Jhunjhunu, Devendra Rajawat, said: "The incident came to light after some customers found the jewellery to be fake in January. Following the development, the bank authority launched a probe and found 73 of such packets containing over 4.1 kg gold items worth Rs.6.5 crores are missing which had been replaced with fake ornaments." According to the ASP, these golds were collected from various customers who took loans from the bank. "There are at least 450 such active gold loans in the bank. The bank authority has lodged an FIR at the local police station against four people including the former branch manager Amit Jangid, former deputy manager Anant Chaudhary, banking correspondent Santosh Saini, and an unidentified person," he said. He added that the case was lodged under sections 318 (4), 316 (5), 303 (2), 61 (2) (a) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. "Amit and Anant had the keys of the vault. They were recently transferred to a different branch last month while Saini was still working at the same branch," said Rajawat. During the preliminary investigation, the bank authority also checked the CCTV footage and found Amit and Anant stealing the jewellery in some boxes and taking them out of the bank on January 21. "On the next day, Saini and an unidentified person were also seen replacing those packets with imitated ornaments," the police officer added. Summons have been issued to all the accused to appear at the police station for an interrogation. "They are currently absconding since the FIR was lodged. We are searching for them and also issued a notice to summon them," Rajawat said. The manager of the branch, Sudheer Sahu, said: "Every customer will be compensated."...
