Ex-CM Gehlot warns of backlash in elections
Jaipur, Feb. 26 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday warned that halting key public welfare projects could spark public anger in the upcoming Panchayati Raj and urban local body elections, as he accused the state government of cancelling proposed satellite hospitals in Kanota and Achrol.
In a social media post, Gehlot said the government's claims of delivering more in "two years versus five years" stand exposed with the scrapping of the projects.
He recalled that in April 2022, the Congress government had announced the opening of satellite hospitals in all four directions of Jaipur to ease the burden on Sawai Man Singh Hospital (SMS Hospital) and provide swift treatment to road accident victims.
The proposed facilities were to come up at Shivdaspura on Tonk Road (south), Balmukundpura on Ajmer Road (west), Kanota on Agra Road (east) and Achrol on Delhi Road (north). Gehlot said work on all four hospitals began during the Congress tenure, with construction at Balmukundpura and Shivdaspura nearly complete before the change in government.
However, he alleged that even a year after completion, the current government has not dedicated these hospitals to the public.
Describing the cancellation of the Kanota and Achrol projects as "unfortunate," Gehlot said land had already been allotted during the Congress regime. He argued that Agra Road and Delhi Road witness a high number of accidents, making the decision to scrap the hospitals both short-sighted and insensitive.
Gehlot urged the government to look beyond "paper claims" and focus on ground realities, saying people are facing hardship due to delayed and discontinued public projects....
