Ensure constant power supply for irrigation: CM
Jaipur, Sept. 22 -- Rajasthan chief minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Sunday said farmers are the backbone of the state's economy and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity for agriculture.
Chairing a review meeting of the energy department on Sunday, Sharma told officials to complete all preparations on time, strengthen power storage, and even purchase additional electricity if needed to meet rising demand during the upcoming Rabi season.
"Farmers are the main pillars of the state's economy and ensuring smooth electricity supply for agricultural activities is the government's priority." The CM directed officials that adequate and uninterrupted power supply to farmers during the upcoming Rabi season must be ensured at all costs.
He directed that maintenance work of power generation units must be completed on time so that these units do not have to be shut down under any circumstance from October to February.
He said that all necessary preparations should be completed in a time-bound manner to ensure that there is no disruption during the Rabi season.
"Due to good rainfall in the state this monsoon season, the sown area of crops has increased. As a result, electricity demand during the Rabi season is expected to be higher compared to last year."
The chief minister said that battery storage capacity for storing generated power should be enhanced to strengthen the supply system. He directed that solar energy projects be expedited so that farmers can be provided electricity during the day by the year 2027.
Reviewing the PM Suryaghar Free 150 Units Scheme and the PM Kusum Yojana in the meeting, he said that Rajasthan has immense potential in the field of renewable energy. Through the PM Kusum Yojana, farmers are being made energy providers, while domestic consumers are also being encouraged to adopt solar energy. This will not only help them meet their own energy needs but also earn additional income by supplying surplus power.
Sharma directed officials that, if necessary, additional electricity should be purchased during peak demand to ensure that irrigation of Rabi crops is not affected.
In the meeting, it was informed that to ensure smooth electricity supply, 92 grid substations have been built so far in the financial year 2025-26, and transformer capacity has been increased by 576.35 MVA. Thus, the total capacity has increased by 949.30 MVA this year. Along with this, the purchase of essential equipment including transformers, conductors, and cables is being undertaken for the maintenance of power units....
