Jaipur, Dec. 24 -- The Education Department has issued a notice to Neerja Modi School, seeking an explanation within seven days over the death of a Class IV student who jumped from the fourth floor of the school building on November 1. An internal inquiry has revealed serious lapses by the school administration in ensuring student safety. The notice, issued by Director of Secondary Education Sitaram Jat, stated that the inquiry team found prescribed safety norms were not being followed on campus. It observed that no security personnel or assistants had been deployed on each floor, allowing young children to roam areas where their classes were not held. The department also termed it a major lapse that the accident site was washed and cleaned soon after the incident. The notice warned that if a satisfactory reply was not submitted within the stipulated time, it would be presumed that the institution had no defence. In that case, action would be initiated under Rule 7 of the Rajasthan Non-Government Educational Institutions Act, 1989, and its Rules, 1993.
