JODHPUR, May 26 -- A police constable was critically injured on Sunday morning after being run over by a dumper allegedly involved in illegal sand (bajri) transportation in the Luni police station area. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Anand Singh Rajpurohit, a police team was conducting a crackdown against illegal sand-laden vehicles on Fitkasni Road, between Khejadli and Gora Hotel. During the operation, one dumper broke through the police barricade and attempted to flee. The police chased the vehicle for about a kilometre until the driver turned onto a side road and stopped the vehicle. As the driver began unloading the illegally transported sand using the dumper's hydraulic system, Constable Sunil Bishnoi (30) tried to intervene. The driver then allegedly ran over Bishnoi with the vehicle. ACP Rajpurohit said intensive efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the absconding driver.
