Jaipur, Aug. 13 -- Two attempts of India's first-ever drone-based artificial rain demonstration at Jawa-Ramgarh dam in Jaipur failed on Tuesday due to GPS signal loss, caused by network congestion from unexpected overcrowding. The initiative aimed to use cloud seeding via drones by combining science, modern technology, and artificial intelligence to tackle water scarcity. Officials said the trials will be resumed in the next two to three days with crowd control measures and multi-network jammers to ensure success. Agriculture minister Kirodi Lal Meena, said, "The GPS system in the drone failed to function properly due to overcrowding in the area. We will try it again in two to three days. If this demo goes successful, we will launch it as a project across the state which would help the farmers and public to solve the water scarcity issue." Rajasthan could be the first state if the demonstration of artificial rains succeeds. On Tuesday, a large number of people gathered in the dam area to witness the artificial rains. The minister also reached the spot along with local MLAs, Scientists, and other officials of the department. When the first attempt failed , police resorted to using force to disperse the crowd. However, two attempts remained unsuccessful. "Our core aim for this project is to rejuvenate the Ramgarh dam. However, the GPS network of the drone could not function properly today due to congestion of the mobile networks. We will use mukti network jammer next time while operating the demonstration," he said. A team of scientists from the USA visited the state earlier this year and helped make the plan of cloud-seeding technique through which artificial rains could be induced. All the departments related to environmental sectors discussed and approved the plan in July. For this project, advanced drones have been imported from South Korea. "It will spray Sodium Chloride in the warm cloud for seeding and that will generate the rains." He further added: "This process will be run for 60 days. In long term, this rain will help rejuvenate the lands and waterbodies of Ramgarh." "Currently, it is under a pilot project and we are going to conduct 60 cloud seeding as a test drive in Ramgarh in the first week of August. We have already received an approval from all the concerned departments and ministries for the test drive but we are still waiting for an approval from DGCA as we will be using drones," MD of GenX AI, Rakesh Agrawal, said. "However, due to the overcrowding, our two attempts remained unsuccessful. The GPS system could not connect due to congestion of mobile networks. We will try it again. We have permission to fly the drone up to 400 feet," he said....
