Dotasra attacks BJP over 'shastra pujan' at schools, colleges
Jaipur, Oct. 3 -- Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Govind Singh Dotasra on Thursday accused the BJP and RSS of undermining Gandhian values and misusing educational institutions.
Speaking after an All-Religion Prayer Meeting at the state Congress headquarters on the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, Dotasra said the Congress remains committed to the path shown by the Father of the Nation.
He alleged that the welfare schemes launched during the UPA government at the Centre and the Congress government in Rajasthan were aligned with Gandhiji's principles of public service, but after the BJP came to power, these schemes were sidelined, causing harm to the people.
Dotasra strongly criticized the RSS for holding Shastra Poojan (weapon worship) ceremonies in educational institutions. "Temples of education should be meant only for learning, not for weapon worship," he said. He further alleged that students who peacefully opposed the practice were assaulted with weapons, leaving many injured, yet no police complaint was registered.
Shastra Pujan is a traditional ceremony symbolising the reverence for weapons as protectors of justice and dharma. Such ceremonies have been organised by the RSS at several points in the organisation's 100-year existence.
"Several students bear visible wounds from these attacks, but authorities have failed to act," Dotasra charged, adding that the BJP government's silence on the issue raises serious concerns.
Responding to Dotasra's comments, BKP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said, "Congress has a habit of making baseless statements. The 11-year governance of GoI is benefitting every section of the society. In Modi's tenure every person is receiving their due rights. "He said students took permission to hold a Shastra Pujan, but NSUI activists tried to create ruckus as it is habit of Congress to not connect with the traditions and culture of India....
