development plans for river basins on anvil, say officials
Jaipur, April 7 -- The Rajasthan government is preparing comprehensive development plans for all 16 river basins in the state, officials said on Monday.
According to chief secretary V Srinivas, accurate assessment of water availability and demand, along with coordinated conservation efforts, were essential to tackle Rajasthan's growing water challenges.
Highlighting the need for a long-term approach, he said sustainable water security in the state can only be achieved through integrated water conservation and management strategies.
He directed departments to maximise the use of technology for effective implementation of schemes, adding that adequate water availability for irrigation must be ensured.
Meanwhile, the Water Resources Department has initiated the revival and redevelopment of Gular Dam located on the Dravyavati River near Sanganer in Jaipur. An estimated Rs.25 crore has been sanctioned for the beautification, renovation and tourism development of the dam.
Officials said the project will include installation of gates to regulate water flow during the monsoon and construction of safety walls along canals, particularly towards Chandalai....
