Jaipur, Jan. 8 -- Rajasthan continued to reel under severe cold and dense fog on Wednesday, with poor visibility affecting normal life across several districts including Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bharatpur and Dausa. In Jaipur, visibility dropped to near zero during the early morning hours, severely impacting road, rail and air traffic. Flight operations were hit at Jaipur International Airport, where at least eight outbound flights were affected due to dense fog. The intense cold spell pushed minimum temperatures below 5 degree Celsius in four cities - Mount Abu, Sikar, Sirohi and Lunkaransar in Bikaner district. According to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, most parts of the state recorded minimum temperatures between 4 degree Celsius and 10 degree Celsius over the past 24 hours, intensifying cold wave and fog conditions. Sikar emerged as one of the coldest places in eastern Rajasthan, recording a minimum temperature of 4.5 degree Celsius. Pilani and Jhunjhunu recorded minimum temperatures of 6.8 degree Celsius and 6.9 degree Celsius respectively. Jaipur reported a minimum of 6.2 degree Celsius, Ajmer 5.9 degree Celsius, Kota 7.4 degree Celsius and Bikaner 7.2 degree Celsius. In western Rajasthan, Lunkaransar recorded 4.9 degree Celsius, Barmer 9.6 degree Celsius, Jaisalmer 6.6 degree Celsius and Jodhpur city 8.9 degree Celsius. Mount Abu remained the coldest hill station at 3.9 degree Celsius. In Dausa, a collision between a tempo and a motorcycle occurred on the Jaipur-Agra National Highway-21 around 8.30am. The 21-year-old motorcyclist died on the spot. Sadar police station constable Bhup Singh said the accident was caused by poor visibility due to fog, and the deceased is yet to be identified. In Ajmer's Kishangarh, a trailer rammed into a bus carrying solar plant employees at Badgaon Chauraha around 8am. The impact caused the bus to overturn, injuring 22 workers. The state government declared holidays for schools up to Class VIII in 26 districts. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for dense fog and cold wave conditions in three districts on Wednesday.
