Defence mock drills in 28 cities today
Jaipur, May 7 -- In the wake of escalating tension between India and Pakistan after the terror attack in south Kashmir's Pahalgam, the ministry of home affairs has directed all states and Union territories to conduct mock drills on Wednesday which will be held in 28 cities in Rajasthan to check preparedness against new and complex threats.
As per the ministry's list, Rajasthan's two cities Kota and Rawatbhata were listed as the most sensitive zone for the drill under category one. "While Rawatbhata has an Atomic Power Station, Kota also has a Super Thermal Power Station which is why they will be handled as the most sensitive cities during the drill," said an official from the Civil Defence Team of Rajasthan police.
At least 18 cities - mainly comprise army cantonments or close to the Pakistan border - were listed under the category 2. These cities include Ajmer, Alwar, Barmer, Bharatpur, Bikaner, Bundi, Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jaipir, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Sikar, Nal, Suratgarh, Abu Road, Nasirabad, and Bhivari. Meanwhile, eight other cities - Phulera, Nagaur, Jalore, Beawar, Lalgarh, Sawai Madhopur, Pali, and Bhilwara - were listed under the category 3 where mock-drill will be exercised on Wednesday.
Chief secretary Sudhans Pant held a meeting with the district collectors on Tuesday evening. The officials said that the Civil Defence Team and SDRF will oversee the mock drills.
On Tuesday, the Civil Defense and SDRF team rang the sirens in Jodhpur and Jaisalmer to practice alerting people during an aerial attack.
Jodhpur collector Gaurav Agrawal said: "Similar sirens will be sounded tomorrow as well while the Civil Defence Team will be sent to the localities to brief the people on how to save themselves during aerial attacks. They will also brief about six to seven services such as fire, medical, emergency rescue efc."
The Sriganganagar district authority have banned any drone operation till Wednesday. SP Gaurav Yadav said, "There is a 25 kilometre stretch at the India-Pakistan border where the flying of drones will be completely banned considering the presence of airforce station, army units, power stations and many other government offices. In rest of the areas, a prior permission will be required for any drone operation."
Kota additional collector Krishna Shukla said: "Some special instructions were given to the police for the protection of the Kota barrage, thermal plants and nuclear plants. An SOP will also be issued for the public where they will be informed about their actions and movements."...
