Jaipur, June 14 -- Warehouses constructed under the decentralised grain storage scheme can now be leased out, following standard operating procedures (SOP) issued by the Cooperative Department. This move is expected to generate a steady income for primary agricultural credit societies (PACS) and improve their financial stability. Principal secretary of the cooperative department and registrar of cooperative societies Manju Rajpal, said that large-scale warehouse construction was underway across the state under the "Prosperity through Cooperation" (Sahakar se Samriddhi) program. These warehouses were being constructed with financial assistance provided by the state government. The SOP sets two different options in order of priority for renting out these storage facilities. She said under the first option, the top priority for renting the warehouse will be to serve farmers' interests - for storage of food grains, mid-day meal supplies, fair price shop stocks, agricultural produce, or other related products. The second priority will be given if the Food and Civil Supplies Department requests the warehouse for decentralised storage based on consumption needs. In case of emergency, the department's requirement for food grain storage will take third priority. Rajpal further said that each society will prepare an annual calendar for renting out its warehouse space. The minimum rental period will be for a year, while the maximum will be up to 3 years under a registered rental agreement....
