Dams filled up to over 90% of capacity as rain recedes: Met
Jaipur, Sept. 16 -- With the monsoon at its tail end in the state, at least 90.2% of Rajasthan's total dam capacity has been filled, officials from the meteorological department said on Monday.
Monsoon officially entered the state on June 20, officials said, and flood-like situations due to incessant rainfall unfolded in several districts, killing around 93 people.
The state has so far recorded around 700 mm rainfall till September 15, said the Indian Meteorological Department, adding that monsoon was likely to be over by September 30.
Meanwhile, rainfall filled up 90.02% of a total 693 dams, as per the state water resources department data till September 14, which shows a corresponding figure of 84.12% for last year.
Of the 22 major dams across Tonk, Kota, Jaipur, Banswara, Deeg, Dausa, Bundi, Pali, Bhilwara, Pratapgarh, Dungarpur, Rajsamand, and Salumber with each more than 100 million cubic metres (mcm) capacity, seven- Banswara's Haro dam, Tonk's Galwa, Tordisagar, Dausa's Morel, Jaipur's Chhaprawara, Pali's Sardarsamand, and Pratapgarh's Jakham dams have completely been filled up.
Nine other major dams- Kota's Rana Pratap Sagar Dam, Kota Barrage, Banswara's Mahi Bajaj Sagar, Tonk's Bisalpur, Dholpur's Parwati, Bundi's Gudha, Pali's Jawai, Dungarpur's Som Kamla Amba, and Rajsamand dams have also recorded more than 90% water availability.
The 252 dams in Rajasthan's Jaipur division with a total 2828.34 mcm capacity reported only 85.24% being covered till Sunday compared to 81.61% on the same date last year, showed the data....
