Kota, Jan. 12 -- A repeat offender was injured in a police encounter in Kota district on Sunday after he allegedly opened fire on a police team during a raid, officers said. The accused, identified as Adil Mirza, sustained a bullet injury in his leg in the retaliatory firing by police and was later detained. Kota Rural SP Sujit Shankar said the accused fired first at the police team, forcing them to respond in self-defence. "The history-sheeter has been injured in the leg and is undergoing treatment. Further legal action will be taken after the investigation. All arrest protocols are being followed," he said. According to police, Adil Mirza, who had earlier fled after firing at police in the Sangod area, was located in the Modak police station limits. When a police team reached the spot to nab him, he again opened fire. Police retaliated, during which Adil was hit in the leg. He was subsequently taken into custody and admitted to hospital for treatment. Police insiders said the operation was carried out after receiving specific inputs about Adil's hideout.
