Cow protection key for sustaining rural economy: Governor
Jaipur, Sept. 6 -- Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Bagade on Friday said that Indian culture is "gau" (cow) culture. The term "gau" in culture signifies the integration of faith with the economy. Such an economy ensures sustainable development, he said.
He highlighted the importance of cow protection for sustaining rural economy and preserving Indian cultural values. He called for strengthening the rural economy by placing the cow at the center and connecting people through its products. He said along with establishing gaushalas (cow shelters) for cow wealth protection, Nandi Shalas should also be set up.
Addressing the global symposium and exhibition "Go-Mahakumbh 2025," he said that no religion is greater than "Go-seva" (cow service). "Our Vedic texts and scriptures regard the cow as sacred. It is the cow that nourishes us with milk, and India's economy is strengthened through cow-derived products such as ghee, paneer, and mawa," he added.
Referring to scriptures, he noted, "In the Anushasan Parva of Mahabharata, Bhishma says the cow is our mother and the bull our father. The Vedas name a sunbeam 'Kapila,' and through Gopashtami and Krishna's association with cows, the cow performed divine abhishek, giving rise to the name 'Govind' for Lord Krishna. The cow represents the universe."
The Governor also toured the exhibition of cow-based products and emphasized the need for effective marketing to promote their use. Earlier, deputy chief minister Diya Kumari said, "Cow service is an integral part of Indian culture and faith. There is no greater dharma than cow service."...
