Barmer, May 31 -- The SC/ST court in Barmer has directed the registration of a case against an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and four policemen for allegedly assaulting a man in police custody. The court has also ordered the investigating officer to submit a report on the matter, officers aware of the matter said on Friday. Special judge (SC/ST Act) Saroj Siwar took serious note of the incident and issued the order against Gadraroad police station's ASI Chandmal and constables Ramesh, Kamlesh, Babulal, and Gajendra Singh, they added. The case stems from an incident on May 17, when the ASI and his team arrested a man, Ramesh Kumar (25), a resident of Gadra town. On May 20, he filed a complaint before the Barmer special judge under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, alleging that he had been assaulted in police custody, police said....
