Udaipur, Nov. 10 -- A police constable posted as a guard at Bhilwara district jail was found dead within jail premises on Saturday night, police said, adding that the incident was suspected to be a case of death by suicide. According to additional superintendent of police Paras Jain, the incident took place moments before the deceased was due to be relieved from his night shift post. "He was on duty at the security tower near the Ajmer overbridge side of the jail campus. During his shift, he shot himself with his service rifle. We are investigating all possible angles to find out what led him to take this extreme step," said Jain. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, he said, adding that the investigation was underway and a case of unnatural death based on a complaint filed by the deceased's brother was fined after the body's discovery. No suicide note was found at the scene, he added. Jail superintendent Shailendra Singh Faojdar was also informed about the situation. Despite evidence collection and inquiry, the police say they have not yet reached any firm conclusion.
