Constable dies by suicide in Jaisalmer
Barmer/Jaisalmer, Jan. 4 -- A 30-year-old police constable allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service revolver inside his government quarters at the Jaisalmer Police Lines on Saturday, police said.
According to police, the constable did not step out of his room in the morning on Saturday. His colleagues broke open the door when there was no response and found him lying dead in a pool of blood inside the room.
SP Abhishek Shivhare said the deceased was a 2015-batch constable who was on duty. "We received information after 10 am. A spot inspection was carried out and the family has been informed," the SP said.
According to police, the constable, a resident of Sawai Madhopur, was posted at the Jaisalmer Police Lines and lived in the quarters with his family. However, his family had recently gone home, and he had been staying alone for few days.
Preliminary findings suggest that the constable shot himself in the head at close range. Senior police officers immediately informed the forensic team, which collected evidence and the service revolver has been taken into custody.
Police said no suicide note has been recovered so far. Initial investigation has ruled out the involvement of any third person. Further legal formalities will be completed after the arrival of the deceased's family....
