Jaipur, March 23 -- The Indian National Congress in Rajasthan has decided to constitute gram panchayat-level executive committees for the first time, with a target of appointing over 500,000 office-bearers across the state, ahead of the upcoming local body and panchayat elections.
The state Congress has issued a circular to all district presidents, directing them to form executive committees in both gram panchayats and urban wards by April 19.
As per the plan, all 14,726 gram panchayats in Rajasthan will have a 21-member executive committee, including a president.
In urban areas, the party will form similar 21-member committees in all 10,245 wards, including a ward president.
State Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra said that the move is intended to build a strong grassroots organisation. "We will complete the formation of gram panchayat committees within a month. Similar committees are being formed in urban wards. Our goal is to appoint over five lakh office-bearers, which will be a record," the state Congress chief said.htc...
