Jaipur, Nov. 18 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday said the Congress' emphatic victory in the Anta bypoll reflected growing public anger against the BJP government, arguing that people across the state feel the previous Congress administration delivered record achievements in social security, health and education, while many of those schemes have now been stopped or weakened.
Gehlot said these "visible failures in governance" contributed to the Congress winning the seat by a margin of over 15,000 votes.
Responding sharply to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks suggesting internal divisions within the Congress, Gehlot called the comments "utter nonsense" and said the PM has "no right" to speak about the Congress' unity.
He accused Modi of attempting to deflect attention from the BJP's own organisational issues, pointing out that the party has failed to appoint a national president for nearly two years. "If a party cannot elect its own president for one-and-a-half to two years, where is the real split - in the BJP or in the Congress?" he said.
