Jaipur, June 26 -- Congress's ongoing Save Constitution rally is a drama as they have always been destroying democracy, chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said on Wednesday on the. "Congress is a party that led the freedom movement against the British but post-independence, it started playing an appeasing politics to rule this country. They have always worked to destroy democracy. This Save Constitution rally is now a drama," Sharma said during a BJP event to mark 50th anniversary of the Emergency period in Jaipur. "They have not even shown any respect to the man who drafted the Constitution. It is the BJP who honoured Babasaheb Ambedkar with Bharat Ratna," he further said. Remembering the Emergency period, the CM said that June 25, 1975 is a black day in Indian history when the government shut everyone's voice overnight only to save her chair. "Thousands of people were put behind the bar, were tortured and even murdered. This was a phase that finished thousands of families. But people who stood firm against this decision will always be remembered in history," he said. "The previous Congress government in Rajasthan stopped the pension scheme for the Loktantra Senanis who fought against the Emergency and were put behind bars. Our government has now made it an act which cannot be scrapped. Those fighters and their families will continue getting a monthly pension throughout their lives," Sharma said. In response, former CM Ashok Gehlot said, "The BJP has nothing to say and that's why it keeps making Emergency an issue all the time. Congress leaders already accepted that there were some mistakes in that decision despite it being issued for a good cause." "Indira Gandhi also lost the following election. But, the BJP should remember that we are the ones who led the freedom movement when RSS people fled the ground. BJP doesn't have any understanding about the country and failed to fulfil a single promise they made during the election in the last 11 years.," he said. Meanwhile, Bhajan Lal Sharma and Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann held a telephonic discussion on the progress of the Ferozepur Feeder Reconstruction Project on Wednesday. "The total cost of the project is Rs.647.62 crore. In this, the share of Punjab state is Rs.379.12 crore (58.54%) and the share of Rajasthan is Rs.268.50 crore (41.46%)," Sharma said....
