Jaipur, July 11 -- Education minister Madan Dilawar on Thursday said that the contribution of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this country was overlooked by the previous Congress-led state government in the school textbooks and the latest curriculum review committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is working on to rectify those "mistakes". "The previous government under the (former chief minister) Ashok Gehlot launched a history book for Class XII - 'Azadi Ke Baad Swarnim Itihaas' in which they glorified only the Gandhi family and the Congress as if no other people had any contribution in the freedom movement and the further development of the country post independence. The book doesn't even mention the name of our PM Modi who had removed the Article 370 and also established the historic Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. After it came to our notice, we directed our syllabus review committee to look into this matter and rectify those mistakes," Dilwara told reporters at a press conference. Calling it a "cunning move" by the Congress, he alleged: "Removing the Artcile 370 in Jammu and Kashmir eliminated terrorism. Earlier, the constitutional provisions and the directions of the Supreme Court could not even be implemented in that region. Don't you think that our children should read about this policy and also the history of Ayodhya Ram Mandir? Shouldn't they read about the person (PM Modi) who did all these for this country?" Dilawar pointed out that the contribution of two other former chief ministers Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Vasundhara Raje in Rajasthan should also be included in the history books. "Shekhawat and Raje's works are the must for the history book in Rajasthan. But, Congress didn't even remember the names of their own prominent leaders such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Syama Prasad Mookerjee (who parted from the Congress and later founded Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the parent party of the BJP) in this book. The entire book is about the Gandhi family. There are more than 15 photos of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi. More than 80% of the book talks about Rajiv's contribution while a PM who had been ruling the country for 11 years didn't even get a mention," Dilawar said. "Congress is also very fond of the Mughal emperor Akbar. Many of the history books in lower classes have also been filled with his glorification... We have fixed them. Now, the Class 12 history book will also be revised," the minister said, adding that the state government has now decided to discontinue this book and prepare a whole new history textbook for the next session. "Such misleading and selective information is harmful for the students. The book was already printed for the ongoing session. This was a waste of money. But we are trying to prepare the new book as soon as possible so that we can quickly discontinue this," he added. Reacting to Dilawar's remarks, the Congress took a dig at the BJP saying that they have no contribution in the freedom movement. Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully said, "BJP leaders now want to erase the contribution of the true nation builders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Patel and also Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi from history. But this is not possible." Questioning the contribution and sacrifices of BJP leaders in the country's freedom struggle, the Congress leader added: "How could their contribution be included in history? The syllabus will have only those names and contributions of the ones who sacrificed for this country and laid the foundation stone of independent India."...
