communication wire stolen from army's firing range
Barmer/Jaisalmer, Aug. 27 -- In a serious breach of security, a total of 12.2 kilometres of communication wire was stolen from the Indian Army's field firing range in Jaisalmer district, officials familiar with the matter said on Tuesday.
According to the report filed by a Havildar of a regiment stationed at the Pokhran Field Firing Range for military exercises, communication wire measuring 65 kms in length was laid across different points on August 17 for training purposes. However, between August 18 and August 21, around 12.2 kms of the wire was found missing - 9 kms on August 18 and another 3.2 kms on August 21. A formal complaint was lodged on August 24 at Lathi police station, following which a case was registered and the investigation assigned to ASI Padamchand.
This is not the first time such incidents have occurred inside the firing range. In October last year, 12 kms of communication wire along with diesel was stolen, though the accused was soon arrested....
