Jaipur, Dec. 3 -- Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma will lay the foundation stone for the Ferozepur Feeder reconstruction project on December 5, marking the centenary year of the Gang Canal system, officials said. The chief minister's office stated, "CM is all set to lay the foundation stone of the reconstruction project of Ferozepur feeder which will ensure sufficient inflow in Ganga Canal system throughout the year and will benefit farmers to irrigate during both Rabi and Kharif seasons. The project will be done at a cost of Rs.647.62 crore." Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann is also expected to attend the event, underscoring the importance of the project. The project includes a cement concrete (CC) lining from RD 0 to 168.230, reconstruction of two head regulators, new construction of one head regulator and one cross regulator, reconstruction of 19 VRBs/DRBs, and three railway crossing bridges. Officials said that after reconstruction, excess water flowing through the Harike bridge will be diverted into the Ferozepur feeder, directly benefiting the Gang Canal system. "This reconstruction project will benefit farmers across 3.14 lakh hectares of the Ganga Canal area by boosting their crop production," the statement added. The reconstruction will increase the feeder's carrying capacity from 9,000 cusecs to 13,842 cusecs. A detailed project report (DPR) was prepared last year by the central jal shakti ministry. Rajasthan will bear Rs.268.50 crore of the total cost while Punjab will contribute Rs.379.12 crore towards the project....
