Jaipur, Nov. 9 -- Rajasthan chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has approved 12,391 road development projects worth Rs.14,816 crore for developing 28,600 kilometres of road network across the state, the CMO said in an official statement on Saturday. "Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the state government is completing the road development work in a priority and quality manner for smooth and safe travel in Rajasthan. The overall development of the state is getting a new impetus through the construction of state highways, upgradation, widening and strengthening of roads, development of national highways, construction of ROBs, RUBs and high-level bridges in a phased manner. Hence, at least 12,391 projects at a cost of Rs.14,816 crores to build 28,600km roads have been sanctioned," said CMO. It further said, "These projects included constructing new highways, widening and upgrading existing roads, and the development of bridges, road overbridges (ROBs) and underbridges (RUBs). According to the officials, Rajasthan government has already spent Rs.24,976 crore for constructing and upgrading 36,140 km of roads across the state in the last two years after the BJP took over power in December 2023. "At least 1,564 villages and hamlets have been connected with roads, while 3,543 km of missing link roads were also developed at Rs.1,328 crore. Around 327 "Atal Pragati Paths" have also been approved with an estimated cost of Rs.813 crore. Under the state highway development initiative 6,249 km of roads have been built at Rs.8,194 crore, while work is in progress on eight highways covering 2,547 km," the official statement said. "Over 5,000 km of roads have also been upgraded to major district roads in order to improve connectivity between district headquarters, On the national highway network, 600km have been widened and work on another 457km is underway. To improve road safety at railway crossings, 10 ROBs and 14 RUBs have been completed, while 33 ROBs, 14 RUBs and 15 high-level bridges are under construction," the statement added. The development also came amid a series of accidents that took place in Rajasthan in the last few months including the two in Jodhpur and Jaipur last week that claimed 29 lives, just a day apart. Following the development, CM Sharma also directed the Urban Development Department to renovate all the roads by December 30. "This is being seen as s special campaign during which each urban body will focus on the renovation of roads, repair and maintenance of dividers and footpaths, cleanliness drives, and installation of traffic indicators. The government has emphasized that these measures are essential to ensure smoother vehicular movement and pedestrian safety. All road renewal works in urban areas have been directed to be completed by March 31, 2026," said the CMO in a previous statement on Thursday. In accordance with the chief minister's directives, unauthorized road cuts will be immediately closed, and unnecessary shrubs and bushes around junctions will be removed. Municipal bodies will install retroreflective boards at the starting points and curves of flyovers, overbridges, and underpasses to enhance visibility and prevent accidents. Slip lanes will be constructed where necessary, and vehicles will not be allowed to park near junctions or turning points. The campaign also includes large-scale repair work for damaged ferro covers, manhole covers, dividers, and footpaths to prevent any potential hazards for pedestrians and motorists. Open drains will be securely covered, and reflective safety boards will be placed in crowded and accident-prone areas. Dividers at busy locations will be equipped with sturdy railings to ensure public safety....
