Jaipur, Nov. 19 -- A clash between two communities- Jats and Rajputs- erupted in Rajasthan's Nagaur on Tuesday over installation of a statue of Maharaja Suraj Mal at a public place in Jodhiyasi village, said police.
Station house officer of Shri Balaji police station, Om Prakash Bohra, said, "The incident took place at 10 am on Tuesday when around 300 people from Jats and Rajput communities gathered at a spot and started pelting stones at each other. The statue of Suraj Mal was installed by the Jats and opposed by the Rajputs."
The SHO said the village sarpanch recently sanctioned the installation of three statues of Maharaja Suraj Mal, Maharana Pratap, and Parashuram.
However, the Rajput community people failed to gather the money for Maharana Pratap's statue while the Jat community started their work. "Hence, they approached the sarpanch and opposed installation of any statue till their statue is ready. The matter was under the official consideration when the Jats, on Monday night, installed the statue sparking a protest by the Rajputs on Tuesday morning," the officer said, adding that no complaint was lodged over the matter....
