Cheetah KP-2 strays into Raj again
Jaipur, April 18 -- A cheetah from Kuno National Park has once again strayed into the boundary of Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, triggering heightened monitoring by forest officials in the region.
The cheetah, identified as KP-2, was spotted on Thursday evening in Ajitpura village near Palighat, along the banks of the Chambal River.
Villagers said they saw the animal roaming on village roads in the early hours before moving into nearby agricultural fields, causing concern among residents.
Forest department teams began monitoring operations following the sighting. A team from Kuno National Park has also reached the area and is actively tracking the cheetah's movement using field surveillance and location inputs.
Officials said the cheetah is believed to have crossed the Chambal River on Wednesday night, initially entering Kota district before moving back across the river under the cover of darkness into Sawai Madhopur district limits.
This is not the first such incident involving KP-2. On March 27, the same cheetah was tranquillised in Peepalda Samel village and transported back to Kuno by the park authorities after it had strayed into human habitation. Earlier, on March 19, it had also entered Kota district, indicating a pattern of long-distance movement.
Palighat Ranger Kishan Kumar Sankhla said villagers in Ajitpura reported the sighting, following which teams from Palighat and Phalodi ranges rushed to the spot and began tracking operations. The Ranthambore team has informed Kuno authorities, and a special team has been deployed to assist in monitoring and possible recapture if required.
Meanwhile, movement of another cheetah, KP-3, continues to be tracked in Baran district, with its location traced recently in Atru and Chhabra areas....
