Jaipur, Nov. 10 -- The high-voltage campaign for Rajasthan's Anta Assembly by-election came to a close on Sunday, with top leaders from the BJP and Congress making their final appeals to voters. The constituency witnessed a day packed with roadshows, rallies, and fiery speeches as both parties showcased strength ahead of polling on November 11. What began as a routine by-election has now become a prestige test for the chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, Vasundhara Raje, and Ashok Gehlot. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma led the BJP's campaign, joined by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, state BJP president Madan Rathore, MP Dushyant Singh, and party candidate Morpal Suman. The Congress, on the other hand, countered with its own massive roadshow featuring former chief minister Ashok Gehlot, party state committee chief Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, and Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya. Independent candidate Naresh Meena also held a large rally, drawing crowds and adding a third dimension to the contest. Polling will be held on November 11 and counting on November 14. The seat fell vacant after BJP MLA Kanwarlal Meena was disqualified for aiming pistol on a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) officer. The BJP has fielded local leader Morpal Suman, reportedly Raje's choice, while the Congress has put its faith in Pramod Jain Bhaya, a two-time MLA, a former minister and Gehlot loyalist. Independent Naresh Meena, who earlier sought a BJP ticket, has complicated the arithmetic, turning the contest triangular. Chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, addressing a roadshow in Anta, highlighted his government's focus on water, electricity, and employment. "Right after forming the government, we created a five-year roadmap that identified water as Rajasthan's top priority," he said, noting that his administration had moved swiftly on the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) and the Yamuna water-sharing agreement with Haryana. He further announced that by 2027, farmers across the state would receive daytime electricity. "Unlike last Congress government where over a majority of exam papers got leaked, we have ended the era of paper leaks - not a single incident has occurred under our watch. We've already provided jobs to 1,000 youth, 1.5 lakh are in the pipeline, and 4 lakh more will follow," he said. Sharma added that MoUs worth Rs.35 lakh crore were signed during the Rising Rajasthan Summit, creating major employment opportunities in the private sector. Sharma added that the BJP government has accomplished in two years what the previous government could not achieve in five. Vasundhara Raje, campaigning alongside Sharma, focused on Anta's local needs - calling for clean drinking water, a new bus stand, a dispensary, and a separate vegetable market to ease traffic congestion. She also emphasized the continuation of the Kendriya Vidyalaya in the constituency. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot launched a blistering attack on the Bhajan Lal government during his rally in Anta. During his speech, Gehlot referred to the state administration as "nikammi aur nakara" (useless and incompetent), Gehlot said, "This is not a government in the real sense - no work happens without money, there is no development, and there is absolutely no vision. It's a time-pass government where neither the chief minister nor his ministers have any authority." He also took aim at the BJP's internal politics, remarking, "Even within the BJP, there is speculation about how long Bhajan Lal Sharma will remain Chief Minister." Urging voters to support Congress candidate Pramod Jain Bhaya, Gehlot said, "If Bhaya wins, it will mean you've endorsed the good work of the previous Congress government." As the campaign closes, Anta braces for a high-stakes triangular contest between the BJP, Congress, and independent Naresh Meena - a poll that has drawn heavyweight leaders from both sides, turning this small constituency into Rajasthan's latest political battleground....
