BSF launches drone awareness campaign
Barmer, May 15 -- In response to repeated drone intrusions from across the Pakistan border, the Border Security Force (BSF) has launched a 'Drone Awareness Campaign' in villages located along the Indo-Pak international border in Rajasthan. Under this initiative, villagers are being educated about drone threats and response protocols. BSF officials are providing basic training to locals on how to identify drone activity and what immediate steps to take if they spot a suspicious flying object.
The campaign was rolled out in the wake of heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, which prompted the Indian government to launch "Operation Sindoor." During the escalation between the two countries, drone incursions were reported in Rajasthan's border districts in large numbers. However, Indian defence systems neutralised all drones mid-air, preventing any damage.
Rajkumar Basata, Deputy Inspector General of BSF in Barmer, said considering the tense situation, the BSF initially launched this awareness campaign to prepare villagers for emergency scenarios. "In view of the increasing drone activity in recent days, we are also educating people about how to respond during drone and missile attacks," he added.
DIG Basata said that drone activity from Pakistan is likely to intensify in the future. "People must remain alert and understand how drones operate, as they pose not just an attack threat but are also used for gathering intelligence," he added. BSF is demonstrating the sound and flight behaviour of drones, explaining their uses in both surveillance and smuggling operations.
