Border villages celebrate India's strikes on terror targets in Pak
Barmer/Bikaner, May 8 -- Fifteen days after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, India carried out airstrikes on nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of Wednesday. Following this, celebrations broke out in the bordering districts of Rajasthan.
In Barmer, residents of border villages like Ramsar, about 60 km from the Barmer district headquarters and located close to the Indo-Pak international border, burst firecrackers and raised slogans "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" to show support of the Indian Army and the government. Locals demanded that every terrorist hideout be destroyed.
Barmer resident Bhagirath Gosai said, "When I woke up at 4 am and checked my phone, I saw the news of the airstrike. I immediately turned on the TV, and there it was - India had struck nine Pakistani terror camps. It filled our hearts with pride and joy. Camps of groups like Lashkar and Jaish have been wiped out. The way terrorists targeted innocent people in Pahalgam after asking their religion - India has responded decisively. Our armed forces must continue to act against terrorism. We had full faith that the government would respond."
Another local, Vijay Sharma said: "Terrorists killed our innocent people. Today we received the news that India struck back at their bases. We're extremely happy. The death of our innocent people has been avenged. This is the kind of response Pakistan should get."
The airstrikes, conducted at 1:30 am on Wednesday under Operation Sindoor, targeted nine terror bases in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Bagh, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad.
Following India's airstrike on terrorist camps in Pakistan and PoK, a high alert was issued across all border areas of Rajasthan. Airports in Bikaner and Jodhpur have been closed. In the three bordering districts - Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Bikaner - the district collectors ordered closure of all schools on Wednesday as a precautionary measure.
In Bikaner, district collector Namrata Vrishni cancelled all leaves of government employees and instructed them not to leave their headquarters.
"No leaves will be granted to any government officer or employee until further notice. Those already on leave must return to duty concerns, a holiday has been declared in all government and private schools across the district. Examinations scheduled for today have also been postponed," she added.
Bikaner district education officer Ramgopal Sharma said: "All government and private schools would remain closed today (Wednesday). Additionally, ongoing internal examinations have been postponed. Similar directives have been issued for the Khajuwala block, where district administration orders have led to the suspension of classes in both government and private institutions."
In Jaisalmer, additional district collector Parsa Ram issued a similar order, declaring a holiday for all schools. He also directed the school authorities to show educational videos to students on how to respond in situations of war or emergencies.
"State-level examinations scheduled to commence today (Wednesday) have also been deferred. Sub-divisional officials have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance with these orders," said Khajuwala block education officer Badri Ram....
