Jaipur, Nov. 12 -- A former city secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was severely injured after he was shot at in broad daylight in Chittorgarh on Tuesday morning, police said.
The incident took place around 11 am near City Petrol in the Kotwali police station area when the victim, Ramesh Inani (65), was travelling on his scooter. A bike-borne assailant overtook him and opened fire, hitting Inani with two bullets which struck his back and leg, said police, adding that CCTV footage confirmed the sequence of events.
He was rushed to the Chittorgarh district hospital and later referred to Udaipur in critical condition, said superintendent of police Manish Tripathi.
Upon receiving information about the incident, MLA Chandrabhana Singh Akya and officials reached the spot, he added.
Tripathi said that Inani, who also runs a courier business, was attacked while on his way to work. The motive behind the attack and the identity of the shooter are being investigated, he added. Inani served as Chittorgarh city BJP secretary till 2019....
