Jaipur, Aug. 12 -- A BJP leader was arrested on Monday for the alleged murder of his wife in Kishangarh, police said. "The incident occurred on Saturday, when the accused Rohit Saini (35) and his wife Sanju Saini were returning from a Rakshabandhan function at Sanju's parental home in Kishangarh's Ralawata village. Rohit is the BJP Mandal general secretary from Udaipur Kalan," said additional superintendent of police, Deepak Kumar. According to police, the accused allegedly slit his wife's throat using a knife on Hathikhana-Silora road. "Later, he carried her to the Kishangarh Government Hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival," added Kumar. The additional superintendent added that the accused initially claimed to investigators that he and his wife were attacked by robbers. "We started doubting him due to his suspicious statements. The sequence of events in his statement kept on changing, following which we began questioning him more strictly, which eventually led to his confession," he added. A case has been registered against Saini under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), police said. Kumar added that despite the motive for the crime being unclear, investigators were probing the possible involvement of three to four more people.
