Jaipur, Aug. 27 -- Leader of opposition Tikaram Jully on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party government of delaying the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP). Demanding the government to give a national project status to the ERCP in view of the farmers' welfare, Jully said: "The arrogant double engine government is only stalling, delaying the project and misleading people about it. The Congress government constructed the Navnera dam under this project and the BJP ministers are now only taking a visit there in helicopters," he added. Slamming chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, he said: "He (the CM) declared himself as Bhagirath for the modified ERCP project (which is now called Ramjal Setu project). All the eastern Rajasthan districts lauded him when the government said that it will be finished soon. Now their minister Sanjay Sharma said that this project cannot be completed before 2039." He also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying that he had made a false promise to the people of Rajasthan 10 years ago to give it a national status. "Now the state BJP government is also constantly misleading the people about this scheme. The CM must not focus more on the politics. Otherwise, people will remove you," Jully added. In response, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said: "Jully was minister in Gehlot government but didn't gave a minute in five years for the ERCP. The BJP government is committed to execute ERCP in the interest if the people and an MoU has been inked."...
