BJP govt 'ruined' Rajiv Gandhi scholarship scheme: Gehlot
Jaipur, July 29 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday slammed the state government for allegedly dismantling the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence, which facilitated overseas education for 500 students annually.
In a post on X, Gehlot said: "The government has not only renamed the Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship for Academic Excellence to Vivekananda Scholarship, but has also ruined the scheme."
He said students are facing the same issues as last year, with admission deadlines in foreign universities nearing, but the scholarship funds have not yet been released.
"The government's argument that fees will be reimbursed later is impractical. If these poor and middle-class families could afford the fees upfront, why would they wait for the scholarship?" Gehlot asked.
He urged chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma to immediately intervene and ensure that the future of these students is not jeopardised.
Commenting on it, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said: "Gehlot is making such statements only to remain politically relevant. The BJP government is performing better than the previous Congress government."...
