Bharatpur, Aug. 28 -- A village in Bharatpur district has submerged as the Gambhir river overflowed due to the release of water from the Panchana dam in Karauli district, people familiar with the matter said. Kanjoli village, located near the Gambhir river in Rudawal block about 25 km from the district headquarters, is completely flooded, leaving villagers trapped inside their homes. According to authorities, continuous release of water from the Panchana dam-where four gates were opened to discharge 2,650 cusecs-has caused the river to swell and overflow. Due to the overflow, the Bharatpur-Rudawal-Karauli-Dholpur road has also been shut. "Besides, standing crops have been destroyed, and villagers are struggling to procure essential goods from nearby markets. The shortage of fodder for livestock has further worsened their plight," the local said. Meanwhile, the district administration has appealed to residents in flood-hit areas to remain cautious. Rain continued to lash the region on Wednesday, delaying hopes of an early return to normalcy. Qummer-Ul Zaman, Bharatpur district collector said: "Revenue officials have been directed to survey crops losses of farmers where crop compensation will be provided to villagers."...
