Jaipur, Nov. 25 -- The state Congress has levelled serious allegations of large-scale manipulation in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, claiming that thousands of voters aligned with the party are being deliberately removed from electoral rolls. State Congress president Govind Singh Dotasra on Monday accused officials involved in the process of misusing the categories of "Absent, Shifted and Death" (ASD) to tamper with voter lists ahead of elections. Dotasra said the ASD mechanism itself has become a tool for irregularities. According to him, voters are being wrongly marked as "Absent" by claiming they were not found at home, while the "Shifted" category is allegedly being used arbitrarily, with nearly 50 per cent manipulation involved. He added that the Congress would soon reveal details of where and how the ASD process has been applied. "We will show you in which localities ASD was used, how many names were added or removed in Congress-supporting areas, and how many were marked under ASD in BJP-leaning areas. Everything will become clear," he said. Dotasra urged people to call the Election Commission and ask what ASD means. "Absent means the person is not found at home. So if someone steps out for work or errands, they will label him as absent. Officials can mark anyone absent as per their wish. Similarly, in the 'Shifted' category they are marking people shifted permanently without any verification. How will anyone know? There is no CCTV camera installed at people's homes to check whether a voter has shifted or not," he said. He also alleged irregularities in the "Death" category. "I have heard they are showing some people as dead. Later when the person comes with the required form, officials may or may not include the name again depending on their wish. This is serious fraud, and we will fight it strongly," he said. Dotasra also claimed that Congress booth-level agents (BLAs) were being sidelined during the revision process. "Our BLAs are not even being contacted. No BLO has reached out to our BLAs. When asked, they say everything will be shown at the end. What will they show at the end when all entries are being filled online? At the final stage they will simply tell us how many voters have been marked absent, shifted or dead. Once 35,000 or 40,000 names are removed, we can only file objections, and whether those objections will be accepted or not will also depend on their wish," he said. Commenting on the issue, BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj said the Congress is focused only on the votes of a particular community. He said the SIR process has so far revealed irregularities only in places where there are bulk votes. "They should trust the Constitution and the Election Commission. Instead of spreading misinformation, they should focus on people's issues," Bharadwaj said. The chief electoral officer could not be reached for comment....
