army issues advisory over thefts of fuel in firing range
Bikaner, Nov. 17 -- The military administration of the Mahajan Field Firing Range on Sunday issued an official letter to the local police station. The letter, addressed to all sarpanches of surrounding villages, gives a strong warning in the wake of an escalation of incidents of organised theft of petrol and diesel from within the restricted military zone, police said.
According to Mahajan station house officer Ramkesh Meena, "We received the letter today and have communicated the same to sarpanches of villages surrounding the firing range. The Army has the authority to deploy armed guards to protect property within its jurisdiction. The police have assured them full cooperation and will take all possible legal action if any information about thieves operating within military territory comes to light."
In the letter, the army expressed particular concern after a recent incident where a guard was reportedly injured by allegedly armed thieves when he tried to intercept them.
The letter, which was seen by HT, clearly states that no unlawful movement or theft will be tolerated inside the firing range. Police stations in Chhatargarh, Rajiyasar and Lunkaransar have also been given copies of the advisory to ensure coordinated vigilance, officials said....
