Army bomb squad neutralises live explosive near Jaisalmer
Barmer, May 13 -- Amid ongoing cross-border tensions, a live explosive that was suspected to be a part of debris from the strikes carried out from Pakistan was discovered on Friday in a deserted area just 10 kilometers from Jaisalmer city, and was safely neutralised on Monday by the Indian Army's bomb disposal squad in a controlled explosion. The explosive device, found in dense bushes, was first spotted by local villagers who immediately alerted the police.
Upon receiving the report, Jaisalmer police promptly reached the location, cordoned off the area to ensure public safety, and notified the Indian Army. A bomb disposal team soon arrived, conducted a detailed examination, and confirmed that the device was live and highly dangerous.
Following standard protocol, the Army sealed off the site and initiated a controlled disposal operation. On Monday the bomb was carefully connected to a remote detonation system using wires, placed in a sandbag-lined pit, and detonated from a safe distance. The resulting blast was powerful and echoed across the surrounding area, though no injuries or property damage were reported.
The successful neutralisation of the device brought much-needed relief to nearby residents. Security forces have urged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious objects or activities, particularly in view of heightened threats following recent drone incursions from across the border....
