All delimitation process to conclude by the end of December, says director of Census ops in Raj
Jaipur, Aug. 13 -- All the delimitation process in Rajasthan has to be over by December 31 following which no change in the administrative borders will be granted for the upcoming Census, officials said.
"There is a significant number of administrative changes that have taken place in Rajasthan in the last few years. The state now has 41 districts which was only 33 earlier. The number of tehsils had been increased to 426 from 243. There are also 13 municipalities which was only 7 earlier and 48,068 villages which was 44,672 earlier. A further panchayat and urban bodies delimititaion process is also underway for which w gave a deadline till June earlier but it is now extended to December 31. Any changes in the administrative boundaries after December will not be granted in the Census," said Vishnu Charan Malik, the director of Census operation (DCO) in Rajasthan.
Declaring the preparation for the upcoming Census is going on in full-fledged , Malik also said that the Census will take place in two phases. "The first phase- Houselisting and Housing Census will happen from April to September in 2026, the second phase- Population Enumeration- will happen in February to March 2027," he said.
The development also came days after the Ministry of Home Affairs notified the Census process on June 16 which had been pending since 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic.
"This Census is going to take place after 15 years. As per the MHA's direction, a co-ordination committee has also been formed in the state comprising the principal secretaries of 16 departments under the supervision of the chief secretary Sudhans Pant," said Malik.
Addressing the press conference, the principal secretary of the Statistics Department, Bhawani Singh Detha, also said, "In view of the vast area and a big population of Rajasthan. There are likely to be a lot of challenges for our staff to cover every single place and reach out to every person. But, we are training our field officers and we will ensure that this Census is done properly."...
