Jaipur, Oct. 2 -- Former chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday expressed concern over the losses suffered by artisans preparing Ravana effigies for Dussehra after sudden heavy rainfall lashed Jaipur and several other cities.
In a post on X, Gehlot said that the festival of Vijayadashami, which was expected to be a major economic opportunity for these artisans, has now turned into a challenge due to the damage caused by the downpour.
He urged the government to step in and provide financial relief to the affected workers. Drawing a parallel with the Covid-19 period, Gehlot recalled how the then Congress government had conducted surveys through district collectors to identify and assist vulnerable sections of society. He said a similar approach should be adopted to support the artisans so they can recover from the crisis.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue for the next two-three days across various parts of the state.
